Jean-Marc Brocard founded his domaine in Préhy in 1973, beginning with a single hectare and gradually building one of Chablis’ most significant family estates. His son Julien joined in the mid 1990s and pushed the domaine strongly toward organic and biodynamic farming; today substantial portions of the estate are certified under both systems. The family’s style emphasizes purity, precision and transparent expressions of Chablis’ Kimmeridgian limestone soils.

Sainte Claire comes from a single vineyard in Préhy, from roughly 30 year old chardonnay vines rooted in classic Kimmeridgian limestone and marl rich in marine fossils. The vines are farmed biodynamically. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, followed by complete malolactic fermentation and roughly seven to nine months of élevage on the lees, also in stainless steel. No oak is used, keeping the wine focused on fruit, acidity and mineral character.

The 2024 shows lemon, clementine and yellow apple with subtle floral and herbal notes. The palate is crisp but not austere, with good mid palate weight, bright acidity and a pronounced chalky, saline character. It finishes clean and energetic, with citrus zest and a distinctly mineral edge.
