Kelley Fox Chardonnay 2024
This chardonnay comes from one of the most distinctive producers in Oregon. Kelley Fox has built her work around transparency and restraint, focusing on historic vineyard sites in the Willamette Valley and a low intervention approach that prioritizes site over cellar influence. Her wines are intentionally light handed, with an emphasis on clarity, energy, and a sense of place rather than weight or polish.
This bottling is sourced from a combination of Durant Vineyard and Freedom Hill Vineyard, two well regarded sites that bring complementary elements to the blend. The fruit is handled gently, with fermentation using native yeasts, and the élevage split between neutral french oak barrels and concrete amphora. This mix allows for texture and slow development while avoiding any overt imprint from new wood.
The approach is consistent with Fox’s broader philosophy. Rather than building richness, the goal is to let the vineyard sources show through with as little interference as possible. The use of older barrels and amphora keeps the wine focused on structure and mineral expression, while maintaining a sense of openness and lift.
