Pierre Péters is one of the benchmark grower producers of the Côte des Blancs, based in Le Mesnil sur Oger. The family has grown vines for six generations and began producing Champagne under its own name in 1919. Rodolphe Péters took over from his father François in 2007 after working alongside him on blending since 2000. Today the domaine farms nearly 20 hectares across 82 parcels, with its core holdings in the Grand Cru villages of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. The estate is especially associated with chardonnay and the intensely chalky, mineral character of Le Mesnil.

The vineyards are sustainably farmed with a relatively light touch, and the family has maintained its own massal selections of chardonnay over generations. Much of the Côte des Blancs holdings are planted over deep chalk, although individual parcels range from pure limestone to areas containing clay and flint. Grapes are harvested by hand and gently whole bunch pressed. Rodolphe’s approach emphasizes careful vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar rather than strongly imposing a winemaking style.

Cuvée de Réserve is the domaine’s signature Champagne, made entirely from Grand Cru chardonnay, with much of the fruit coming from Le Mesnil sur Oger alongside Oger, Cramant and Avize. Approximately half of the blend comes from the current harvest and half from a perpetual reserve begun with wines from 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1996 and refreshed each year. Primary fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with the young wine remaining on its lees until blending. The reserve wines mature in a combination of large foudres, concrete and stainless steel, bringing additional texture and complexity without obvious oak character. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the Champagne spends at least two years on its lees before disgorgement and is finished at roughly 6 to 7 grams per liter dosage.

The wine is precise and energetic, with lemon, grapefruit and crisp pear joined by white flowers, fresh almond and subtle bread and pastry notes. The palate combines a fine mousse with creamy texture, vivid acidity and pronounced chalky minerality. A saline, citrus driven finish gives it both freshness and the distinctive tension associated with the Côte des Blancs.
