Rathfinny Wine Estate was founded in 2010 by Mark and Sarah Driver near Alfriston in East Sussex, with the first vines planted in 2012. The family run estate has grown to approximately 93 hectares and operates as a single estate grower producer, with all grapes grown and wines made on the property. The vineyard lies in the South Downs National Park, just three miles from the English Channel, and Rathfinny produces only vintage traditional method sparkling wines rather than non vintage blends.

The vineyard occupies a predominantly south facing slope with shallow clay loam over deep chalk, part of the same geological formation extending beneath the Channel into northern France. The chalk provides excellent drainage while retaining moisture for the vines during dry periods, and the nearby sea moderates temperatures and reduces frost risk. Rathfinny places considerable emphasis on sustainable and increasingly regenerative farming, encouraging biodiversity, restoring chalk grassland and limiting the impact of vineyard cultivation. The estate achieved B Corp certification in 2023.

The 2019 Classic Cuvée is a blend of 44% pinot noir, 41% chardonnay and 15% pinot meunier, all estate grown and hand harvested. The grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle using the traditional method, with a minimum of 36 months aging on the lees before disgorgement. Dosage is a relatively low 4.5 grams per liter, giving the finished wine a dry, focused style while the extended lees aging contributes texture and autolytic complexity.

The 2019 shows red apple, lemon and grapefruit alongside brioche, pastry and subtle red berry notes. The palate combines bright, firm acidity with a creamy mousse and a gently richer lemon curd character, finishing dry, chalky and refreshing with lingering citrus and red fruit.
