Gaston Chiquet “Special Club” Champagne Brut 2015
Gaston Chiquet Special Club Brut 2015 comes from one of Champagne's oldest grower estates and a founding member of the prestigious Club Trésors de Champagne. The Chiquet family has been farming vines in Dizy since 1746 and was among the first growers to bottle and market its own Champagne under the family name in 1935. Today the estate farms 23 hectares across Dizy, Aÿ, and Hautvillers, producing wines that are known for their precision, balance, and exceptional value. The Special Club bottling is made only in outstanding vintages and must pass a rigorous blind tasting by the Club before it can be released.
The 2015 is composed of 68% chardonnay and 32% pinot noir. The chardonnay comes primarily from premier cru vineyards in Dizy, with additional fruit from premier cru parcels in Hautvillers, while the pinot noir is sourced entirely from Dizy. The vines are rooted in clay and limestone soils over deep chalk, a classic Champagne combination that provides both richness and striking mineral tension.
Each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel, with full malolactic fermentation to soften the wine's naturally vibrant acidity. After the final blend is assembled, the wine spends more than 90 months aging on its lees before disgorgement and is finished with a restrained dosage of 6 g/L. This extended lees aging builds remarkable complexity while preserving the freshness that defines Gaston Chiquet's house style.
The 2015 opens with aromas of Meyer lemon, orchard fruit, brioche, toasted hazelnut, white flowers, and wet stone. The palate is elegant yet generous, combining a creamy mousse with vibrant acidity and layers of citrus, baked apple, almond, and chalky minerality. Long, refined, and beautifully balanced, it is equally compelling as an aperitif or alongside lobster, scallops, roast poultry, and aged cheeses. As one of Champagne's great grower bottlings, Gaston Chiquet's Special Club delivers the depth and finesse expected from one of the region's most respected vintage cuvées.
