Château Cambon is a small but important Beaujolais estate revived in the 1990s by Marcel Lapierre along with Jean-Claude Chanudet (of Domaine Chamonard) and Marie Lapierre. It sits just outside Morgon and Brouilly, on excellent but historically overlooked vineyard land with some very old vines. After Marcel’s passing, Marie Lapierre and Chanudet continued the work, and today the estate carries forward that same lineage and spirit.

The approach here is rooted in the classic Chauvet and Lapierre philosophy. Farming is organic, fruit is harvested by hand, and fermentations are done with native yeasts using whole clusters. Wines are aged in older oak and bottled with very little intervention and minimal sulfur. The goal is not to chase a style, but to let gamay show purity, energy, and a clear sense of place.

The “100% Gamay” 2024 is a direct expression of that philosophy. It comes from old vine parcels across mixed soils and is made with whole cluster semi carbonic fermentation, then rested in neutral oak before bottling. The wine is bright and expressive with notes of cherry, raspberry, and red currant, balanced by fresh acidity and a soft, rounded texture. It is easy to enjoy but still has enough depth and structure to keep it interesting.

Overall, this is a great example of Beaujolais that feels both classic and alive, equally appealing to longtime fans of Lapierre style wines and to anyone looking for a fresh, vibrant red that overdelivers for the price.
