Domaine des Billards, Saint-Amour 2022 is a red wine from one of the historic estates in the Saint-Amour cru of Beaujolais in Burgundy, France. The domaine has belonged to the Barbet and Teissier families since the 18th century and is rooted in the region’s deep winemaking heritage; an old parchment in the cellar records sales as far back as 1774 to high-ranking figures in Paris. The vineyards cover about five hectares at the mid-slope of Saint-Amour’s diverse terroir — a mosaic of sandstone pebbles, granite outcroppings and clay — which contributes to both richness and finesse in the wines. Farming is traditionally focused and natural, with no herbicides and regular ploughing to encourage biodiversity, and the winery employs a semi-carbonic fermentation with gentle cap management and ageing in cement tanks to showcase the purity of gamay.

This 2022 Saint-Amour shows gamay at its most vibrant and polished. Expect bright red fruit, hints of darker berries, and soft notes of spice and forest floor. The texture is supple yet focused, with lively acidity and smooth tannins carrying the fruit through a long, refreshing finish. It’s immediately appealing, but with enough depth and structure to reward short-term cellaring.
