Kewin Descombes is part of the new generation of Beaujolais producers carrying forward the legacy of the region's natural wine movement. The son of the legendary Georges Descombes, one of the original "Gang of Four" inspired winemakers, Kewin established his own domaine in 2013 while still in his early twenties. Rather than simply copying his father's style, he has developed a fresh, energetic approach that combines traditional Beaujolais methods with meticulous vineyard work, quickly earning a reputation as one of the region's rising stars.
The domaine farms old vine vineyards in Morgon and Beaujolais using organic methods, avoiding herbicides and synthetic chemicals while encouraging healthy soils and biodiversity. Fruit is harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum, with little or no sulfur during fermentation, no fining, and minimal filtration. The result is a lineup of wines that emphasize purity, freshness, and drinkability while remaining unmistakably Beaujolais.
The 2023 Cuvée Kéké is made from 100% gamay grown in the Beaujolais appellation. Named after Kewin's childhood nickname, the wine is intended as a joyful, everyday expression of the region rather than a structured cru. Whole clusters undergo semi carbonic maceration before aging in concrete and older barrels, preserving bright fruit while adding subtle texture. The wine is bottled with minimal intervention to capture its youthful energy.
The 2023 vintage is bursting with aromas of raspberry, cherry, wild strawberry, peony, and pink pepper. The palate is light on its feet with vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and a mineral freshness that keeps the wine lively and balanced. Juicy, fragrant, and incredibly easy to drink, it is an ideal match for charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled sausages, burgers, or a slight chill on a warm evening.
