La Staffa Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico 2024 comes from a small, organic estate in the hilltop village of Staffolo, in Italy’s Marche region. The winery was founded by the Baldi family in the early 1990s and is now led by Riccardo Baldi, who has become one of the more thoughtful voices in verdicchio. His work centers on hillside vineyards in the historic “Classico” zone, farmed organically (with biodynamic influence) and handled with a clear, low-intervention approach.
The wine is 100% verdicchio, sourced from a mix of estate parcels planted on clay-limestone soils at altitude, where cooler conditions help preserve acidity and structure. Fruit is harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and cement. The wine then rests on its lees — largely in cement — for several months, building texture without introducing oak influence.
Baldi’s goal is not to embellish the grape, but to present verdicchio in a clear, site-driven way. The 2024 reflects that approach: clean, structured, and quietly mineral, with citrus and almond notes carried by steady acidity and a dry, saline finish.
