Massolino Barolo Serralunga d'Alba 2021 comes from one of the historic estates of Serralunga, founded in 1896 and still run by the Massolino family today. The winery has long been associated with a more traditional style of Barolo, shaped by the firm structure and longevity that define the Serralunga side of the appellation. Over the generations, the family has expanded carefully while maintaining a strong focus on hillside vineyard sites and restrained cellar practices that allow nebbiolo and terroir to remain central.
This bottling is sourced from a range of estate vineyards around Serralunga d'Alba, where compact limestone and clay soils along with higher elevations contribute to wines with pronounced structure and slower evolution. Rather than isolating a single cru, the wine is intended to present a broader expression of the commune and its characteristic balance of tension, depth, and longevity.
The wine is made from 100 percent nebbiolo. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with an extended maceration on the skins, followed by aging primarily in large Slavonian oak casks for around 30 months before additional bottle aging prior to release. The use of large neutral wood reflects the estate’s traditional approach, allowing gradual development without significant oak influence.
The 2021 vintage is particularly well suited to the style of Serralunga, combining ripe tannins with strong acidity and structure. The wine leans toward red fruit, dried rose, spice, and earthy notes, framed by firm but measured tannins and a long, mineral driven finish.
A classic Serralunga Barolo from a historic producer rooted in traditional farming, patient aging, and the long lived expression of nebbiolo.
