In the Dundee Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, the Maresh family has been farming the same red volcanic slopes since 1970. The vineyard was originally planted by Jim and Loie Maresh, pioneers of the region who believed deeply in dry farming, low yields, and allowing site to speak without excess manipulation. Today, second-generation grower Jim Maresh carries that philosophy forward under the Arterberry Maresh label, crafting wines that reflect both heritage and precision.
The MARESH pinot noir 2022 comes from the estate’s oldest blocks, rooted in classic Jory soils at elevation. The vines, many dating back decades, yield fruit of natural concentration but striking transparency. Fermented with native yeasts and handled with restraint in the cellar, the wine sees gentle extraction and measured élevage in French oak, allowing structure without obscuring detail.
The 2022 vintage shows the signature Dundee Hills profile: lifted red cherry and raspberry, hints of rose petal and spice, and a fine, savory thread that runs through the palate. There’s both delicacy and quiet depth here; tannins are supple but structured, acidity bright yet integrated. It’s a pinot that doesn’t shout; it unfolds, gaining nuance with air and rewarding patience.
Arterberry Maresh’s MARESH bottling is less about power and more about lineage - a pure, elegant expression of one of Oregon’s foundational vineyard sites.
