Domaine Michel Goubard & Fils - Mont-Avril Rouge - Côte Chalonnaise

Domaine Michel Goubard & Fils is a long established family estate in the Côte Chalonnaise, with roots in Saint Désert dating back to the 1600s. Today the domaine is run by brothers Pierre François and Vincent Goubard, who continue the family's focus on producing classic Burgundy that offers exceptional value. Farming approximately 38 hectares across the Côte Chalonnaise, the estate is especially known for expressive, site driven wines from the slopes of Mont Avril, a historic hillside overlooking the village.

The vineyards are farmed sustainably with an emphasis on preserving healthy soils and balanced vines. Fruit is harvested by hand and carefully sorted before gentle vinification that favors elegance over extraction. Oak is used thoughtfully to support the wine rather than dominate it, allowing the freshness of the fruit and the limestone rich soils of the Côte Chalonnaise to remain at the forefront.

Mont Avril Rouge 2023 is made from 100% pinot noir grown on a south facing parcel of roughly 35 year old vines on the slopes of Mont Avril. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, adding subtle structure and spice while preserving the bright fruit that defines the vintage. It is intended to capture the approachable, fruit driven style that has made the Côte Chalonnaise one of Burgundy's best values.

The 2023 vintage offers aromas of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and violet with hints of baking spice and earth. The palate is fresh and supple, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a mineral finish that reflects its Burgundian origins. Elegant and versatile, it pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and soft, creamy cheeses.
