From the importer, David Bowler: The Bandol appellation borders the Mediterranean and is celebrated for powerful reds and structured, elegant rosés. Just half a mile inland, on a hillside near the village of Le Castellet, Domaine de la Tour du Bon quietly produces some of the region’s finest wines.

Formerly a polyculture farm with pigs, bees, olives, figs, and vines, Tour du Bon bottled its first vintage in 1955. The forest at the heart of the vineyard inspired the estate’s iconic label. Today, the domaine is owned and run by Agnès Henry. Her parents purchased the property in 1968, and after considering a sale in the late 1980s, Agnès moved south in 1990 to take over the estate.

The winery sits atop a hill with sweeping views toward the Mediterranean. Of the 17 surrounding hectares, 12 are planted to vines, with pockets of pine forest and natural brush left untouched. Clay-limestone soils with red subsoil, abundant sunshine, and little rainfall make this the hottest part of Bandol.

With over 30 years of experience, Agnès farms organically and has incorporated biodynamic practices since 2018. Fermentations take place in open-top cement vats, followed by a minimum of 18 months aging in foudres and barrels, as required by Bandol. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. Her goal is to capture Bandol’s power with finesse—pure, elegant, and age-worthy wines that reflect their terroir without artifice.
