Brij Wines Rag Vineyard Grenache 2024 comes from the California project of Rajat Parr, a sommelier turned winemaker whose work has increasingly centered on farming and site expression along the cool San Luis Obispo Coast, particularly around Cambria. Under the Brij label, Parr works with organically farmed vineyards sourced from growers he trusts, applying the same philosophy he uses at his Phelan Farm estate a focus on soil health, low intervention, and transparency in the cellar.
The Rag Vineyard sits close to the Pacific, where strong maritime influence slows ripening and preserves acidity, giving a different profile than warmer inland California sites. The wine is made from 100 percent grenache, with fermentation carried out using native yeasts and a portion of whole clusters. Aging takes place in large neutral oak vessels, with no fining or filtration and little to no added sulfur, in line with Parr’s minimalist approach.
The intent here is not to build weight, but to show a more lifted and site driven expression of grenache shaped by coastal conditions. The wine tends toward red fruit, subtle spice, and a lightly savory edge, carried by freshness and fine structure rather than density.
A focused, vineyard specific bottling that reflects Parr’s broader shift from sommelier to farmer with an emphasis on place, restraint, and farming as the foundation of the wine.
