Deep ruby with violet highlights, this wine opens with aromas of violets, rose petals, black fruit, and a whisper of tobacco. Medium-bodied with soft, polished tannins and bright acidity, it finishes long, fresh, and beautifully balanced—ideal with filet mignon and mushroom risotto.
De Martino, founded in 1934, has spent four generations crafting wines that reflect Chile’s terroir. Pioneers of carmenere labeling in 1996, they also revived century-old vineyards in the Itata Valley, blending traditional techniques with modern precision. Today, fourth-generation leaders Marco Antonio and Sebastián De Martino continue to explore distinctive terroirs while refining the house style.
The Las Cruces vineyard in Pichidegua, Cachapoal Valley, sits at 161 meters on gently sloping granitic loam. The 64-year-old vines thrive in a warm-temperate climate with winter rains. The 2021 harvest was cooler than previous years, producing grapes of exceptional quality. Hand-harvested and cold-soaked for 7 days, fermentation occurred spontaneously over 6 days, followed by 30 days of maceration. The wine matured 9 months in used French oak and an additional 10 months in a 25 HL Stockinger foudre, resulting in a refined, terroir-driven expression.
