Domaine de Majas is one of the leading estates of French natural wine in the Roussillon. The winery was founded in the early 1990s by Alain Carrère and entered a new chapter when renowned grower Tom Lubbe of Domaine Matassa began consulting in the vineyard and cellar. That influence shifted the estate toward organic farming, lower yields, earlier harvesting, and a lighter, fresher style that stands apart from the rich, powerful wines traditionally associated with the region. Today, Majas is widely respected for producing vibrant, terroir driven wines that consistently overdeliver for their price.
The estate farms organically across vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees, where cooling mountain winds help preserve acidity despite the warm Mediterranean climate. The vineyards are worked without synthetic herbicides or pesticides, grapes are harvested by hand, and fermentations rely on native yeasts whenever possible. Winemaking is intentionally hands off, with minimal sulfur additions, no fining, and little or no filtration, allowing each wine to express its vineyard and vintage with clarity.
The 2025 Majas Orange is made entirely from sauvignon blanc, a somewhat unexpected choice for an orange wine. After harvest, the grapes spend extended time fermenting on their skins, extracting tannin, color, and aromatic complexity before aging with minimal intervention. The wine is bottled unfiltered with only a small amount of sulfur, preserving its texture and lively character.
The wine is aromatic and energetic, offering notes of dried apricot, orange peel, chamomile, herbs, and citrus alongside a subtle mineral edge. Gentle tannins from the skin contact provide structure without overwhelming the fruit, making it both refreshing and highly versatile at the table. It pairs especially well with grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, Middle Eastern cuisine, and aged goat cheeses.
