Champagne Drémont Marroy is a small grower estate based in Charly sur Marne in the western Vallée de la Marne. The domaine has developed over several generations, growing from roughly one hectare under the grandparents to 7.5 hectares under Jean Louis Drémont and Françoise Marroy. Today their children, Jean Rémi and Mélanie Drémont, manage 23 vineyard parcels across four villages. Their approach combines traditional grower Champagne methods with increasingly precise parcel by parcel farming and winemaking.
The vineyards have been certified organic since the 2022 vintage. Farming emphasizes permanent or seasonal ground cover, biodiversity and relatively light vineyard intervention, with some parcels worked using a Boulonnais draft horse rather than heavy machinery. In the cellar, individual parcels are vinified separately with indigenous yeasts, and only the first press juice is used. The estate works with stainless steel, barrels, foudres and other neutral vessels depending on the parcel and cuvée.
Le Triau is best described as multi vintage rather than simply NV: the current 2022 based release combines approximately 70% 2022 with 30% reserve wine from 2021. It is a blend of 50% meunier, 30% chardonnay and 20% pinot noir, drawn from multiple parcels across the domaine. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine spends about 11 months on its fine lees, with approximately 30% raised in used oak barrels ranging from 220 to 600 liters. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve acidity and tension. After tirage, the wine spends roughly 42 months on its lees in bottle and is finished Extra Brut at around 3 g/L dosage.
The wine shows citrus, green apple and mirabelle plum with floral notes, almond, subtle vanilla and hints of brioche. The palate is energetic and vinous, combining bright acidity and lively mousse with a broader, gently creamy texture from the lees and barrel élevage. It finishes dry and precise, with grapefruit, savory mineral notes and a distinctly saline edge.
