Louis Roederer ushered in a new era with the launch of Collection 242, replacing the long-standing Brut Premier with a fresher, more transparent approach to their entry-level Champagne. Each Collection is numbered by its base harvest—242 draws primarily from the 2017 vintage, which makes up 56% of the blend.
The wine is layered with depth from Roederer’s Perpetual Reserve (34%), begun in 2012 and spanning several vintages, plus an additional 10% of oak-aged reserve wines. The final blend—36% Pinot Noir, 42% Chardonnay, and 22% Pinot Meunier—was aged three years on the lees and disgorged in March 2021.
In the glass, it shows a straw hue with subtle maturity. Aromas open with apple, citrus, peach, white flowers, and gentle notes of butter and nuttiness. The palate is lively yet rounded, offering red apple, lemon zest, pear, brioche, hazelnut, and hints of ripe fruit, finishing with a generous texture.
