In the western Loire Valley, near the village of Vertou, Domaine Jean Aubron has been farming melon de bourgogne for generations. The estate sits in the heart of Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, where soils of gneiss and granite lend structure and subtle mineral character to the wines. Today, the Aubron family continues to work their vineyards with a focus on sustainable practices and careful, thoughtful cellar work.
The 2023 Muscadet is fermented with native yeasts and aged on its lees through the winter, building texture without sacrificing freshness. The élevage is simple and traditional, designed to preserve clarity and site expression rather than add weight.
In the glass, the wine is clean and precise: citrus peel, green apple, and a light saline note typical of the region. The palate is brisk but not sharp, with gentle lees-driven roundness and a dry, stony finish. It’s a straightforward, well-made Muscadet that works naturally at the table. Pair with oysters, simple fish preparations, or fresh goat cheese. The wine shows why the appellation remains such a reliable source of balanced, everyday Loire whites.
