From Rare Wine Co:
In 1997, a single glass of Tokaji Aszú set Anthony Hwang on a path that would reshape his life, and help revive a historic wine region. Captivated by the wine’s profound sense of place and striking balance, he traveled to Tokaj, where a meeting with legendary winemaker István Szepsy revealed the region’s immense, long-dormant potential.
Soon after, Hwang acquired Királyudvar, a former royal estate with historic vineyards in Tokaj’s most prized crus. With guidance from Szepsy and later drawing on his experience at Domaine Huet in Vouvray, he restored the estate and transitioned to biodynamic farming. Today, Királyudvar stands at the forefront of Tokaj’s renaissance, producing not only great sweet wines but also exceptional dry styles - most notably Furmint Sec, first made in 2005, a vibrant expression of Furmint’s texture, energy, and clarity.
