Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2024

Arterberry Maresh is the project of Jim Maresh, whose family has farmed in the Dundee Hills since 1959. His grandparents Jim and Loie Maresh planted Maresh Vineyard in 1970 at the urging of Oregon pioneer Dick Erath, making it the fifth oldest vineyard in the state and the first on Worden Hill Road. Jim founded Arterberry Maresh in 2005, reviving the Arterberry name used by his late father, Fred Arterberry. Today he makes only pinot noir and chardonnay from Maresh Vineyard and a small number of neighboring Dundee Hills sites. 

The 2024 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir blends fruit from Maresh Vineyard, Weber Vineyard and another old vine, high elevation site nearby. The vineyards are dry farmed, with Maresh historically farmed without synthetic inputs, and the Dundee Hills’ deep red volcanic Jory soils contribute much of the wine’s red fruit, floral lift and fine tannic structure. The fruit is destemmed, fermented spontaneously in small lots with gentle extraction, then raised in French oak for roughly 14 to 18 months with only a small proportion of new barrels. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no acidification or watering.

The 2024 is beautifully lifted, with cherry, raspberry and cranberry joined by rose petal, orange peel and subtle spice. The palate is sleek and energetic, with juicy acidity, refined tannins and a distinctly mineral edge. It finishes long and fresh, showing the elegance and red fruited character that define classic Dundee Hills pinot noir.
