Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2024
Arterberry Maresh is one of Oregon’s most important old vine producers, rooted in the Maresh family’s farming history in the Dundee Hills. The family planted pinot noir here in 1970, making Maresh Vineyard one of Oregon’s earliest vineyards. Today, third generation winemaker Jim Maresh makes wines that emphasize the transparency of these historic sites, working with minimal intervention and a restrained approach to oak.
The Dundee Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from Maresh Vineyard, Weber Vineyard and another historic neighboring high elevation site. The vineyards are planted on the region’s distinctive red volcanic Jory soils, and the fruit is handled gently in the cellar, with spontaneous fermentation, restrained extraction and aging primarily in neutral French oak. The wines are unfined and unfiltered, with no adjustments to acid, sugar or water.
The 2024 is a classic Dundee Hills pinot noir: beautiful red fruit, floral aromatics, bright acidity and fine tannins, with a light, energetic feel at just 13% alcohol. Jim Maresh describes it simply as “deep and complete,” and that sense of concentration without weight is very much the signature of the estate.
