From the importer: Daniel Bouland is a great producer of old-fashioned Morgon. From less than 7 hectares of old vines in the Douby, Côte de Py, and Delys, lieux of Morgon, plus small parcels in Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly, he makes wines that can age 20 years, and are comparable to fine Côte de Nuits Burgundies. His Corcellette Morgon vineyard is 60-75 year old vines. De Lys, between Corcellette and Ville Morgon, was planted in 1926. In 2014 he acquired another old vines parcel, Bellevue, on a foundation of schiste and granite. All his grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with full clusters in order to extract all the organoleptic qualities. All his bottlings are unfiltered.

Bouland’s Morgon “Delys Vieilles Vignes 1926” comes from a tiny 45-are plot in the Corcelette hamlet of Morgon, home to some of his oldest vines. The soil here is so soft and crumbly that the roots plunge deep into the hillside, giving the wine its striking sense of minerality.

The aromatics of the wine are beautifully lifted: dark berry fruit, black cherry, hints of roasted meat, and a clear imprint of stony earth, rounded out by warm spice, fresh thyme, and a subtle smoky high note. On the palate, it’s concentrated yet composed, driven by old-vine depth and an unmistakable expression of place. The tannins are ripe and tucked in, the detail is precise, and the finish is long, elegant, and impeccably balanced. A classic Morgon.
