Domaine Bois de Boursan is a small family estate established by Jean Versino in Châteauneuf du Pape in the 1950s. His son Jean Paul Versino joined the domaine in the early 1980s and has continued its distinctly traditional approach to the appellation. The family works 27 parcels scattered throughout Châteauneuf du Pape, including many old vines averaging more than 50 years of age, and maintains plantings of all 13 traditional grape varieties used by the estate.
The vineyards are certified organic, with no synthetic pesticides or herbicides used. Their scattered parcels encompass the appellation’s varied terroirs, including clay limestone soils, sand and the famous galets roulés. Harvesting is manual, and the domaine favors traditional, relatively low intervention cellar work designed to preserve the character of its mature vines and individual sites.
The 2025 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc is 35% clairette, 35% grenache blanc, 15% roussanne and 15% bourboulenc, and represents only a small portion of the estate’s production. Fermentation takes place in neutral tank, followed by a relatively short élevage intended to preserve freshness; the 2025 incorporates stainless steel with a small barrel component before bottling roughly six months after harvest. Unlike many richer white Châteauneufs, the emphasis here is less on oak and more on the combination of clairette’s lift, grenache blanc’s body, roussanne’s texture and bourboulenc’s acidity.
The 2025 shows white peach, pear and yellow apple with white flowers, citrus, almond and subtle spice. The palate is broad and textured yet surprisingly fresh, with a savory mineral quality and a gently bitter, saline finish that keeps the wine from feeling heavy.
