Domaine Hoffmann Jayer is a small family estate based in Magny lès Villers, where the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Nuits meet. The domaine was created through the union of two long established Burgundian families and today farms just 11 hectares of vineyards. Under the direction of Alexandre Hoffmann, the estate has become one of the leading producers of the Hautes Côtes, crafting wines that emphasize purity, finesse, and the distinct character of Burgundy's higher elevation vineyards.
The vineyards are farmed sustainably with meticulous attention to each parcel. Old vines, naturally low yields, and hand harvesting produce fruit of remarkable concentration while preserving freshness. Fermentations rely on native yeasts, and cellar work is intentionally gentle, allowing the wines to develop naturally with minimal intervention. The result is a collection of Burgundies that are vibrant, transparent, and deeply expressive of their limestone rich terroir.
The Hautes Côtes de Beaune Rouge 2020 comes from one hectare of nearly 60 year old pinot noir planted in the En Foigery and Les Castaings vineyards in Magny lès Villers. Following a cold soak, the grapes ferment spontaneously in cement tank before the wine ages for 18 months in a combination of two thirds 228 liter French oak barrels, with only 20 percent new oak, and one third terracotta jar. The wine is bottled without filtration, preserving its purity, texture, and sense of place.
The 2020 vintage is bright and beautifully energetic with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, and rose petals layered with subtle earth and spice. The palate is fresh and focused with lively acidity, elegant tannins, and a distinctive limestone driven minerality that carries through the long finish. It is a wonderfully transparent expression of pinot noir that pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, and soft cheeses.
