She studied vineyard and estate management at the wine school in Beaune, graduating in 2009, while her husband Frédéric had already established a vineyard services business. Rather than simply joining his operation, Nathalie chose to build her own domaine and make wine under her own name. Today the estate covers about 12 hectares across Bouzeron, Maranges, Santenay, Auxey-Duresses and neighboring appellations, with daughter Laura now working alongside the family after completing her own viticulture and oenology training. The vineyards are farmed without chemical herbicides, soils are regularly worked and aerated, and Nathalie prefers a pragmatic, low-intervention approach rather than pursuing an organic label. In the cellar she fully destems, allows fermentations to proceed spontaneously and adds sulfur only after malolactic fermentation.

The 2023 Beauregard is 100% pinot noir from a tiny 0.3 hectare parcel in the Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard vineyard, situated mid-slope in the northeastern part of the appellation near the border with Chassagne-Montrachet. This is a very small production, typically yielding only about four barrels. Compared with Richez’s village Santenay, Beauregard naturally gives a darker, deeper and more structured expression, while retaining the freshness and purity that define her wines. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine undergoes roughly 12 to 18 months of élevage in French oak, with about 20 to 25% new barrels. The oak is present more as a structural frame than a flavoring element, adding breadth and polish without obscuring the vineyard’s fruit or mineral character.

The 2023 shows cranberry, red cherry and darker berry fruit with red flowers, subtle spice and a faint smoky note. The palate has more depth and succulent texture than the village wine, but remains energetic and finely balanced, with fresh acidity and supple tannins. The finish is elegant and persistent, combining ripe fruit with a savory, lightly mineral edge.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0897/4991/3915/files/NathalieRichezSantenay1erCruBeauregard2023.jpg?v=1793387358
