Domaine Grosbot Barbara is a small family estate in Cesset in the historic Saint Pourçain appellation of central France. Established in 1996, the winery combines generations of local vineyard heritage with the vision of Denis Barbara, whose focus has been on showcasing the unique character of this often overlooked region. The estate farms approximately 8.5 hectares across a mosaic of clay limestone, granite, and sandy soils, producing wines that balance tradition with precision and a strong sense of place.

Farming at the estate is meticulous and largely done by hand. Denis Barbara works many of the vineyards himself, maintaining naturally low yields through careful bud pruning and green harvesting. The vineyards are managed sustainably with grasses planted between the rows, no insecticides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers, and all fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts. These thoughtful practices allow the individual vineyard sites and the distinctive character of Saint Pourçain to shine through in every bottle.

Brut 0 Méthode Traditionnelle is one of the most distinctive sparkling wines produced in Saint Pourçain. Made from 100 percent gamay, it is a blanc de noirs sourced entirely from the Les Ferneaux vineyard, a single granite parcel in Bransat. Denis Barbara was the first and remains the only producer in the appellation to craft a traditional method sparkling wine from gamay. The grapes are harvested early to preserve freshness, gently pressed, fermented in stainless steel, and undergo secondary fermentation in bottle before aging on the lees. The wine is bottled with no dosage, giving rise to its name, Brut 0. Annual production is only about 4,000 bottles.

The 2024 release is crisp, vibrant, and beautifully dry with fine persistent bubbles. Notes of green apple, citrus zest, white flowers, and fresh baked bread are complemented by a chalky mineral character and a long, refreshing finish. Its zero dosage style makes it exceptionally pure and food friendly, pairing effortlessly with oysters, sushi, fried appetizers, or simply as an elegant aperitif.
