Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvée Theo 2020

Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvée Théo 2020 comes from one of Alsace's most celebrated estates. Founded on the site of a Capuchin monastery dating to 1612 and owned by the Faller family since 1898, Domaine Weinbach has long been regarded as a benchmark producer of Alsatian wine. Today the estate is farmed biodynamically and is renowned for wines that combine precision, elegance, and a profound expression of terroir.

Cuvée Théo is named in honor of Théo Faller, who guided the estate until his passing in 1979. The wine is made from 100% riesling, sourced primarily from the estate's historic Clos des Capucins vineyard, with some fruit from younger vines in the Grand Cru Schlossberg vineyard. The vineyards sit on a mix of sandy clay, granite, and gravelly soils that contribute both aromatic intensity and mineral character.

Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for approximately ten months in large neutral oak foudres, the wine balances purity and texture while preserving the vibrant character of riesling. Organic and biodynamic farming practices further emphasize the estate's commitment to expressing the nuances of each vintage and vineyard site.

The 2020 vintage offers aromas of white flowers, lime zest, citrus, peach, apricot, and green apple, layered over a distinctive mineral backbone. The palate is dry, energetic, and finely structured, combining bright acidity with remarkable concentration and a long, saline finish. Already expressive, it also has the balance and depth to develop beautifully over the coming decade.
