Angelo Negro e Figli is one of the historic names of Roero, with the Negro family farming vineyards in the region since 1670. Based in Monteu Roero, the estate played a pivotal role in preserving and elevating the arneis grape, which had nearly disappeared by the mid 20th century. In 1971, Giovanni Negro produced one of the first modern dry versions of Roero Arneis, helping establish the variety as one of Piedmont's signature white wines. Today, the family continues to craft wines that highlight the unique sandy soils and native grape varieties of Roero.
The estate farms sustainably, avoiding herbicides while emphasizing healthy vineyard ecosystems and careful manual work. Grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve freshness. In the cellar, winemaking is intentionally gentle, relying on temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel and extended lees aging to build texture without masking the purity of the fruit.
Serra Lupini 2024 is made from 100% arneis grown on calcareous sandy soils at elevations of 280 to 320 meters. About 20% of the fruit undergoes a brief cold maceration before fermentation to enhance aromatic complexity. The wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation, then aged on its fine lees for at least four months with regular bâtonnage, preserving freshness while adding richness and depth.
The 2024 vintage is bright and expressive, offering aromas of peach, pear, acacia blossom, and tropical fruit. The palate is fresh yet gently textured, combining crisp acidity with notes of citrus, almond, and a distinctive saline minerality that reflects Roero's sandy soils. Elegant and versatile, it pairs beautifully with shellfish, grilled fish, fresh cheeses, vegetable dishes, and light poultry.
