Balkan Wine Region

Collection: Balkan Wine Region

The Balkan wine region, encompassing countries like Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bulgaria, is rich in history and diversity, boasting some of the oldest winemaking traditions in the world. Each country contributes unique varietals and styles, influenced by its varied climates and terroirs. Croatia is known for its indigenous plavac mali grape producing bold reds on the Dalmatian coast, while Slovenia focuses on natural wine making traditions and skin contact / orange wines. Bulgaria has a burgeoning wine scene, with an emphasis on both traditional varieties like mavrud and international grapes like cabernet sauvignon. In Serbia, wine regions like Vojvodina are gaining recognition for their quality wines, especially from indigenous grapes like prokupac.  The Balkans' winemakers are increasingly focusing on organic and sustainable practices, as they showcase their unique wines on the global stage.
