Notes from the producer: Domaine de l’Évêché Coteaux Bourguignons 2022 comes from a small Burgundy estate rooted in the Côte Chalonnaise village of St-Denis-de-Vaux, where granite-inflected soils shape a range of regional wines. At this level of their lineup, the focus is on uncomplicated, everyday drinkability while still reflecting place and vintage.
The 2022 bottling is a blend dominated by gamay with a touch of pinot noir, bringing together the lighter, more peppery side of gamay and the finer structure of pinot. The grapes were destemmed, gently fermented, and aged in stainless steel to preserve primary fruit and freshness.
In the glass, the wine shows a clear, youthful purple color and a nose of fresh berries and floral hints — think blackcurrant and violet — with a straightforward, juicy entry. On the palate it’s balanced between gamay’s vivacity and pinot noir’s subtle tension, with a clean, spicy finish that keeps it lively without heaviness.
This is a versatile, easy-going red that pairs well with simple fare — cold cuts and cheeses, grilled vegetables, or modestly seasoned meats — and it’s approachable from the first pour.
