From the importer: Not long after purchasing vineyards in the late 1960s and releasing his first wines in the early 1970s Jacques Seysses became an international icon. Jacques respect for the terroir of the Côte d’Or is still on display in his viticultural practices and innovative winemaking methods. Dujac wines are more than just varietally correct – they are intimate travelogues of some of the most celebrated sites on earth. Sons Jeremy and Alec along with Jeremy’s wife, Diana, have been handed the reigns of this famous estate.
Chambolle-Musigny covers 94 hectares of village vineyards, though the Domaine itself farms just 0.64 hectares. Nestled among five neighboring appellations—Morey-Saint-Denis, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Flagey-Echézeaux, Vougeot, and Gilly-lès-Cîteaux—it is home to two Grand Cru vineyards, twenty-four Premier Cru climats, and thirty-eight named lieux-dits. The village has long been associated with Pinot Noir alone, and its name traces back to the Gallic Cambo, meaning “river bend,” a reference to its position at the curve of a stream descending from the Combe d’Ambin. The famed Musigny climat was formally added to the village name in 1874.
This wine is a pure pinot noir grown on classic clay-and-limestone soils. It is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged for 18 months in French barriques, 60–85% of which are new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it captures the elegant, silken style that defines Chambolle-Musigny.
