Catalonia, in northeastern Spain, offers vibrant reds and whites and the popular sparkling wine, Cava. Grapes such as garnacha, carignan, and international varieties like cabernet sauvignon and merlot thrive in Catalonia’s varied climates. The region’s Penedès area is where Cava comes from. Cava is made using the same traditional methodé as Champagne. Catalonia is also home to a growing natural and low-intervention wine movement, with producers focusing on organic practices and native grape varieties to create expressive, terroir-driven wines.
