Stargazer Wines is the project of Samantha Connew, one of Australia’s most respected winemakers, focused on small-batch, site-driven wines from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. Her approach emphasizes texture and balance as much as purity, often incorporating techniques like wild fermentation, skin contact, and lees aging to build complexity beyond classic high-acid Riesling.
The 2024 Riesling reflects that philosophy: it sits right on the edge of dry and off-dry, with a subtle touch of residual sugar balancing vibrant natural acidity. Expect lifted citrus, bergamot, lime zest, and yuzu. Alongside green apple and a distinct wet stone minerality.
Texturally, it’s more generous than a typical razor-sharp riesling, with a slightly silky, layered palate from lees work and brief skin contact. The finish is long, saline, and refreshing, making it both immediately drinkable and capable of aging. Overall, it’s a modern Tasmanian riesling: precise, aromatic, but with an extra dimension of depth and approachability.
